Sonja Alhäuser as a guest at Cafe Kleinschmidt
Paul Kleinschmidt (1883-1949) provided the motifs for his imagery of the wild city life in Berlin in the 1920s with its coffee houses and bars. Rarely shown are the seductive pastry still lifes and coffee house pieces of this painter, who treated color with the virtuosity of a confectioner. Sonja Alhäuser (*1969) prefers chocolate, butter and marzipan as sculptural materials.
The Museum Ulm has invited the Berlin artist to develop an exhibition in dialogue with Paul Kleinschmidt’s sugar confectioner’s pictures that tempts visitors to snack.
