Otl Aicher 100 Years 100 Posters : At HfG-Archiv, Am Hochsträß 8, 89081 Ulm

Otl Aicher (1922-1991) was one of the leading designers in the second half of the 20th century. With the posters for the Ulm Adult Education Center (vh ulm) or for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Otl Aicher created designs that are still influential today. As a co-founder of the legendary Ulm School of Design (1953-1968), where he was for a time head of the „Visual Communication“ department, he still continues to have a lasting impact on design education.

His works have been exhibited internationally and continue to serve as models for generations of future designers. Since 1997, the HfG-Archiv / Museum Ulm has been taking care of his estate. On the occasion of Otl Aicher‘s 100th birthday, the HfG-Archiv is presenting a selection of 100 posters from this rich treasure that are characteristic of his work. In the course of his life, Otl Aicher designed countless posters advertising lectures, events, products or political parties. The poster can be considered the leading medium in his work.

On display are posters created for the Volkshochschule ulm (vh ulm), major events such as the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, cultural events, politics, or for companies. They impressively demonstrate the diversity of his graphic work.

An extensive program of events illuminates further topics from the perspective of design history and design practice.
