Provenance research at the Museum Ulm
Due to the Corona crisis the exhibition must be cancelled. It may be made up at a later date.
The exhibition gives an insight into the work of provenance research and presents concrete cases from the Museum Ulm. It marks the conclusion of a three-year project sponsored by the Stiftung Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste (German Centre for Losses of Cultural Property Foundation), which systematically examined the Museum Ulm’s collection holdings, especially those from the acquisition period 1933-1945, for unclarified provenances and possible objects seized as a result of Nazi persecution or sold under duress.
By means of exhibits, but also archival documents, which represent important sources and aids for provenance research, it is shown how the origin and history of an object is investigated and also which difficulties and obstacles often arise in the process.
